Collection: Car Kettles

When my son-in-law started driving cross-country, I refused to let him drink gas station tea. A car kettle changed his trips. We carry 4 models: 12V and 24V, stainless steel, from a compact heated mug to a full 1.2L kettle for cars and trucks.

  • 4 models available
  • 12V (car) & 24V (truck)
  • Stainless steel construction
  • US-ready plugs
  • ✓ Real hot water on the go: no microwave, no rest stop needed
  • ✓ Stainless steel interiors (no plastic taste)
  • ✓ Compact enough for a cupholder or passenger seat
  • ✓ Works for tea, coffee, instant soup, oatmeal

Why a car kettle beats a thermos

A thermos loses heat after a couple of hours. A 12V car kettle plugs into your cigarette lighter and heats fresh water whenever you need it. Expect 15 to 25 minutes for a full boil (12V outlets deliver ~100-150W), but you plug it in while driving and your water is ready when you stop. Pro tip: fill with warm water before leaving home to cut heating time in half.

Temperature note: most 12V kettles reach 185-210°F, covering black tea (212°F), green and white tea (160-185°F), and herbals. See the temperature guide by tea type for the full chart.

Which size and voltage?

Model Capacity Voltage Best for
Car Heated Mug 450ml 450 ml 12V Solo driver, one cup at a time
Car & Truck Kettle 1L 1 L 12V / 24V Couples, road trips, truckers
Car Kettle 1.2L Stainless Steel 1.2 L 12V / 24V Families, camping, multiple cups
Car Kettle 12V/24V Stainless Steel varies 12V / 24V Versatile, car or truck ready

12V = regular cars, SUVs, vans. 24V = big rigs, semis, commercial vehicles. If you switch between vehicles, the dual 12V/24V models are the smartest buy. Bring a tea infuser and a proper tea cup for the best road-brew experience. Always unplug when the engine is off, never fill past the max line, and keep the cord clear of the gear shift.

Why stainless steel matters

Plastic-lined kettles give water a weird taste, especially in a sun-baked car. Stainless steel is taste-neutral, easy to clean, and durable. Descale with equal parts water and white vinegar, rinse well. Full method in our descaling guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can a car kettle actually boil water?

Most 12V models reach 185-210°F. Some hit a full boil but take 15-25 min for a liter. 24V truck models get there faster. For green and herbal teas the lower range is ideal.

Will it drain my battery?

Only if left plugged in with the engine off. While driving, your alternator provides plenty of power. Most models also auto-shutoff at temperature.

12V vs 24V: what's the difference?

12V is standard for cars/SUVs; 24V is for commercial trucks and buses. A 12V kettle in a 24V truck can burn out. Dual-voltage models like our 1.2L stainless steel kettle work in both.

Heated mug or kettle?

The 450ml mug fits a cupholder and keeps one drink warm. The 1L/1.2L kettles heat more water for sharing or soup. Solo commuter = mug; road trips or trucking = kettle.

Can I brew loose leaf or herbal tea?

Yes. Heat water in the kettle, pour over leaves in a separate cup with a tea infuser. Don't put leaves directly in the kettle. A fine-mesh infuser works best for small particles like chamomile.
